RubyFrost Apple Roses

Ingredients

  • RubyFrost Apples - 3
  • Puff Pastry (Thawed from Frozen) - 1 pkg
  • Honey (Alternatively jam, Marmalade, or Jelly of Choice) - 1/4 cup
  • Lemon Juice - 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon - To Taste

Instructions

  1. As far as kitchen equipment goes, you will need a sharp knife or mandolin slicer, a muffin tin, a rolling pin, and a large bowl.
  2. First, cut your apples in half from top to bottom, and remove the core. Place the halved apples flat side down on a cutting board and slice them as thin as possible.
  3. Once you have sliced your apples, put them into your large bowl and fill it with water. Add the lemon juice to the water - this will prevent browning. Microwave for about 5 minutes to soften the apples.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Thaw puff pastry according to package instructions. Roll out pastry to make it slightly thinner. Slice both sheets of pastry into six long strips.
  5. Spread some honey onto the pastry, and then layer the apple slices onto the pastry strip lengthwise, overlapping the slices. Make sure the rounded peel side is facing out. Fold the empty half of the strip over your apple slices.
  6. Next you will roll the strip into a spiral - this is what creates the beautiful rose shape. Go slow and be gentle to avoid breaking the apples. Carefully place the completed rose into your muffin tin. Repeat to create twelve pieces.
  7. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the roses if you wish. Bake for 40 minutes. Check frequently to avoid burning.
